- What is a Doula?
Doula is a word meaning woman's helper. A doula is a trained professional, often a mom herself, who has received specialized education and has a passion for supporting other moms. A doula may be a woman with experience in mothering and/or certified by any number of organizations (for profit and not-for-profit) and/or belong to a professional society. Back to top
- Why hire a Doula instead of a Nanny or cleaning person?
Doulas are professionals who focus on mentoring the new family, specifically new mothers, and who focus on creating a peaceful transition for the entire family. A doula provides mindful support, non-biased information (when asked) or referral, and hands-on nurturing care--most often directing her energy toward the new mom. Our doulas will always provide experienced, loving care to your precious newborn, but our focus is on anticipating and meeting the needs of the whole family. Back to top

| While it is wonderful to be home, home for most women means work, and we have ignored the fact that the new mother needs to be resting and cared for. Being home in bed is just the place to be with your new baby. After getting married you took a honeymoon to have time away from responsibilities, be in love, and honor the new relationship. After giving birth, taking a "babymoon" is even more important. It's time to fall in love, climb in bed, skin to skin, count Dad in, and appreciate the amazing miracle and the new relationship in your lives! |
