A guest post by Vermont artist, Bethany Farrell:
Eight years ago, while pregnant with my first child, a colleague of mine directed me to check out a "belly gallery" online. I was intrigued and decided to check it out. There I found an array of pregnant bodies cast in plaster and highly designed. Amazing, I thought.

Being an artist I decided that I would do this for myself (with my partner of course). Over the next few months of my pregnancy I did three different casts. I designed and painted them each to reflect the beauty and awe I felt as my child grew within me. They are, to this day, treasured by our family.
In the years since discovering this art form, I have done many casts. Every one is as unique as the woman it reflects. The casts are one of a kind pieces of art that capture a fleeting moment in time. They are sculptures that remember the wonder of life and how it develops. A belly cast tells a story and it belongs to each woman, each child, and their family. It is a keepsake that will change hands through the generations of a family and leave behind your legacy.

I now have my own "Belly gallery" which shows some of the casts I have done for women over the years. It can be viewed at my website www.bethanyfarrell.com. I offer casting sessions in my studio starting at $65. You can also buy a casting kit and do it at home with a partner or friend for $25 plus shipping. This is a great bonding experience for partners. The price on all painted designs is determined per design as each one in unique. I am, however, willing to work within a price range that will work for you. I am also offering a 10% discount on designed casts for clients who work with Mama Doula.
